Alexandra 'Alex' Trahan

Alex is from southern Louisiana where flooding and hurricanes have and continue to displace people from their homes. She observed the unhealthy practices of the agriculture, oil, gas, and chemical industries in her communities. These experiences and observations led her to seek spaces where change and collaboration were occurring. Thus, she joined the University of Arizona as a student trainee in the Indigenous-Food, Energy, Water Security and Sovereignty (Indige-FEWSS) program that aims to address the wicked issues that are prevalent in Native Nations, and to work in Dr. Mónica Ramírez-Andreotta’s Integrated Environmental Science and Health Risk Laboratory (IESHRL) as a graduate researcher. 

Alex has worked in academia, state, and community organizations in the fields of sustainability, environmental geochemistry, hydrology, and regenerative land practices. In the Ramirez-Andreotta Lab, she is pursuing her master’s of science in environmental science. She is a part of the Gardenroots project in Superior, AZ addressing community environmental health concerns. In her free time, she enjoys being outside and doing art.
