Kirsten Howe (pronounced CURSE-tin) is the Outreach Coordinator for the Ramírez-Andreotta Laboratory, where she works to engage the public in soil and environmental research efforts that affect their communities. Her role is unique within the unit as she splits her time with Arizona Project Wet and works to bridge the efforts of the lab and Project Wet to create more holistic and inclusive environmental health literacy programming. Kirsten is passionate about environmental justice and motivated to empower members of marginalized communities to take ownership of their data and environmental health.

Kirsten's professional experience includes community engagement, environmental education, and program management, and she earned her master's in Environmental Conservation Education from New York University. Her areas of interest include environmental and climate change justice, community engagement and place-based education, and ecosystem connectivity and conservation. Her master’s thesis examined the use of geospatial learning on student engagement, motivation, and action in urban environmental justice pedagogy.

In her free time, Kirsten loves to spend as much time as possible outdoors, hiking, rock climbing, birding, and appreciating the diverse biota of the Sonoran Desert. She is also a freelance artist and scientific illustrator and loves any opportunity to bring art and visual storytelling into her work.
